Anna Menzies - cello

Anna Menzies was born in Newcastle. She studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Guildhall with David Smith, Louise Hopkins and Richard Lester, and subsequently with Hannah Roberts at the RNCM.

Anna has performed across the UK and Europe as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician including concerto appearances with the Sheffield Philharmonic, Tyneside Chamber and Alderley Edge Orchestras. She has been recipient of numerous awards, including scholarships from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the RNCM’s Richard Newitt Award. 

A Park Lane Group Artist, Anna has given duo recitals at the Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James’ Piccadilly. Anna's interests span from early to contemporary music and she regularly collaborates with composers, among other projects working with Sofia Gubaidulina for the UK premiere of ‘Verwandlung’ recorded by the Sky Arts channel.

Anna taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Chetham’s School of Music for several years and is now a cello tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
