Kay Stephen is from Aberdeen and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Katie Hull and at the Royal Northern College of Music with Pavel Fischer, taking up viola alongside violin early in her studies. In 2012 she completed an International Artist Diploma in string leadership with the Hallé Orchestra.
In addition to playing in the quartet, Kay is violist and violinist with the Jacquin Trio with whom she won the 2016 Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition. She also works with orchestras including the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, BBC SSO, RLPO, Royal Northern Sinfonia and has recently become a member of Manchester Camerata with whom she has appeared frequently as principal violist and as a soloist.
